1960 Sunbeam Rapier Series 111 Competition Saloon
This Series III Rapier was purchased in rolling chassis form in 2005 (displaying 56,000 miles on the odometer at that time) It was then fully restored and prepared for endurance rallying.
Following this it was then entered in the 2007 Peking to Paris Rally, winning the Coupe des Dames for its driver, Pamela Reid (competitor number ‘118’). It featured in the Travel Channel’s 10-part television series ‘Peking to Paris’.
The car’s specification includes a 1,592cc Series IIIA engine and overdrive gearbox, the former with low (7.0:1) compression ratio; Twin Solex Carb's; seam-welded front cross member; up-rated suspension; alternator electrics, internally routed fuel and brake lines; laminated windscreen; radiator protection; Custom Fuel Tank made by Concept Racing; twin electronic ignition system; full roll cage; and Recaro driver/passenger seats with competition harnesses.
Since coming into our ownership we have done some recommissioning work including changing all fluids, fitting new front callipers and shoes and Dinitrol / Waxoil proofing the car.
We have endeavoured to leave the rest of the car as untouched as possible to maintain its rally patina as when it finished the race.
Please note the car carried a private numberplate for the rally and was subsequently returned to it's original.
